Vlad Soloviev is a multi-faceted Toronto-based collaborative artist who is equally at home in opera and oratorio. As a repetiteur and vocal coach, Vlad has spent the last two seasons as a Canadian Opera Company’s (COC) Ensemble Studio member where has been a repetiteur for mainstage shows, including Tosca, Gianni Schicchi, Madama Butterfly, Carmen, Salome, and The Magic Flute. He also served as co-music director on Metis composer Ian Cusson’s new work Fantasma in 2021.

In addition to his work with the COC, Vlad has coached at Highlands Opera Studio (Eugene Onegin), the University of Toronto Opera School (Der Schauspieldirektor, Le Portrait de Manon), and the Classical Lyric Arts Opera Studio in Perugia, Italy (scenes program).

As a performer, his extensive repertoire ranges from complete operas and oratorios to the major art song works of Schumann, Schubert, Vaughan-Williams, Rachmaninoff, and Mahler. He is regularly heard in recital as part of the COC Free Concert Series at the Richard Bradshaw Auditorium and has performed onstage with the Toronto Summer Music Festival, at the Weill Recital Hall, the Musikverein in Vienna, and the Bohemian National Hall in New York City.

Vlad is the long-time music director and organist at Trinity United Church in Newmarket, ON, where he has conducted many of the standard oratorio works of Bach (Cantatas no. 140, no. 147, no. 152), Durefle (Requiem), Faure (Requiem) Handel (Messiah), Mendelssohn (Elijah), Mozart (Te Deum, Vesperae de Dominica, Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, Requiem in D minor), Pergolesi (Stabat Mater), and Vivaldi (Gloria).

A native Russian speaker, Vlad has a passion for languages and has become a sought-after Russian and Czech coach in the Toronto area. Vlad is dedicated to working with the next generation of singers and creatives and has served as a teaching artist with the COC’s Opera Makers Community Program and regularly coaches young singers from the University of Toronto and the Glenn Gould School of Music.

Vlad studied at the Eastman School of Music, Mannes College, the University of Toronto, and Western University and holds a Master of Music in solo and collaborative piano. He is a winner of the Pattison Piano Competition, the Concerto Competition at Western University, and the London Scholarship Foundation Competition, and has also been a first prize winner of the Canadian Music Competition.

Vlad makes his home downtown Toronto with his arts admin wife and grumpy cat.
